Every year, SNCF trains new staff for railway traffic operations roles — a dense, highly regulated field where every procedure matters. The challenge: to design an internal application that makes this knowledge accessible, easy to remember and available anywhere.
Our brief focused on the experience and the interface: shaping a web and mobile application that is a pleasure to use, capable of turning a dense training manual into a living, structured and personalised tool.
The application serves two audiences: learners, working towards their qualification, and staff, who need to revisit the fundamentals anytime, anywhere.
The goal: to make learning and retention easier for the fundamentals of the signaller's role. To get there, we relied on a personalised experience — users are greeted by their first name, guided step by step, and supported as they progress.

Every screen was designed to reduce mental load: a clear hierarchy, search by concept, and navigation that turns a regulatory framework into a smooth learning journey.

The content is divided into six main sections, each tied to a colour. This colour code keeps users constantly aware of where they are, turning a dense subject into a clear and engaging journey.
Each section breaks down into chapters and sub-sections. This sequencing makes content easier to remember, improves readability and lets users track what they have already covered. Key concepts are brought to life with cards and educational videos.
Users are greeted by their first name and guided section after section. Personalised progress tracking gives them the sense of being supported throughout their training.
As soon as new content is published — a video or a chapter — users are alerted at a glance and can view it right away.
Beyond the application, we designed the experience of a back-office that lets SNCF teams manage content entirely on their own: adding, editing and removing chapters and videos in just a few clicks.
The watchword: security. Only authorised people can access the content, every route is protected, and fine-grained access control — users, sub-administrators — guarantees full control on SNCF's side.
